Review: The Knife of Never Letting Go

The Knife of Never Letting Go
The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sometimes I think I have to stop reading YA novels–they’re too stressful for me! ;) I totally enjoyed this audiobook, although I have to say it ends on a wicked cliffhanger. Make sure you’re going to have access to the next book in the series when you need it! There were parts that were so stressful I had to shut it off for a while and come back later. This could be due in part to the excellent audio production and narration–the book really comes to life.

I’ve seen some folks say that they found the protagonist of this book unsympathetic, but that wasn’t my feeling. He’s a product of the world he grew up in, and his flaws were, to me, quite usual flaws for a character of his age, and in his circumstances.

The world/society-building is very intriguing and quite nuanced, the characters are engaging, and I really, really want to find out what happens to them. That’s the mark of a good book, isn’t it?
